Hey guys! My name is Brad Russell and I am a senior finance major here at the greatest school in the world, Texas A&M.
The Lord has blessed me tremendously with the opportunity to serve in Impact during my time in college. It’s crazy to me to think that it’s almost time for me to graduate from this place. It honestly feels like yesterday when my parents helped me move in to my dorm at the Commons as I began my freshman year. Time flies.
One of the distinct memories I have from that year is my first Aggie football game at Kyle Field. With 85,000 screaming fans all around me, I slowly realized that this was not your average school. Everyone was so united under the simple fact that we were all Aggies. It was amazing to me.
But as the next few weeks continued, I learned something even more amazing that continues to astound me to this day. There is a huge body of believers here at Texas A&M that is united under the common bond of Jesus Christ. The Lord is doing something incredible both on this campus and in the community of Bryan/College Station. Students are yearning to become leaders for Him. The Gospel is being proclaimed. People are coming to know Him and His name is being glorified on this campus.
So here’s my message to the class of 2015: God has a specific purpose for you while you are here at A&M. It is to know Him and to make Him known both on this campus and in this city.
I know it can seem overwhelming to come into a brand new environment. Trust me…I was a little scared too. But the cool thing is that you are not alone. Amidst all the uncertainty, know that God is faithful. He’s got you in His hands and He is in control.
I am reminded of the story of Jesus calming the storm. In the midst of the rough waves and the fear displayed by the disciples, Jesus slept soundly below deck. HE SLEPT! That was how little this earthly storm affected Him. It was nothing to the Creator of the universe.
In the storms we face, we can be at rest in knowing that Christ is our rock. Unwavering.
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
